The rose is one of the most loved and cultivated plants. It has occupied a prominent place in the art, literature and religions of many cultures since early times and stands as a symbol of love innocence and purity; nationhood, courage, passion and desire. The earliest pictorial evidence of a rose dates back to the sixteenth century BC, Royal Minoan Palace at Knossos in Crete. Meet your guide at the front steps.

This year we will be visiting 4 very different gardens in the Beeac/Birregurra area, ranging from a tiny 3-year old native garden to a grand Victorian homestead era garden; a rambling farm garden to a stylish country town garden. Two have opened for OGV and all have been created by passionate gardeners who will share these beautiful spaces with us. A plant sale and afternoon tea will complete a wonderful day out for garden lovers. BYO picnic lunch at the 2nd garden or purchase your own lunch along the way. GUEST SPEAKER - PADRAIC FISHER   'THE BOLLARD PROJECT: PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE' Join the friends in the large meeting room at the Geelong Botanic Gardens to hear guest speaker Padraic Fisher, ex Director of the National Wool Museum, talk about the Bollard Project. The Bollards are an iconic part of the Geelong Waterfront. Reclaimed timber pier pylons have been transformed into remarkable works of art by artist Jan Mitchell from 1995. The Bollards feature 48 sites with more than 100 bollards between Rippleside Park and Limeburner's Point. Come and hear about the City of Geelongs plans to move into a new phase for these beloved icons. The presentation will be preceeded by a light supper.  Members $20 and Non-members $25
